Food and Farming Futures is a national initiative to bring you free access to authoritative research and technology transfer publications.
Food and Farming Futures incorporates OpenFields, an internet based 'library'. It is designed to meet practitioner and student demand for knowledge that supports and stimulates the development of land-based industries. It aims to become their first point of reference.
OpenFields was developed from the work of the National Rural Knowledge Exchange (a HEFCE funded collaboration between 14 universities) and supported and hosted by Harper Adams University.
Food and Farming Futures' predecessor was FarmingFutures, a joint initiative between IBERS at the University of Aberystwyth, NIAB, Harper Adams University, East Malling Research, Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) and SRUC. The FarmingFutures initiative sought to create a profitable and sustainable agricultural industry driven by innovation, long-term thinking and climate change action. It played its part by communicating with farmers, land managers and their advisors and influencers to drive on-farm climate change adaptation and mitigation.
A small team comprising web developers and content managers is responsible for building and maintaining the online library. Growth of the library is dependent on the contributed items of authoritative organisations. As Food and Farming Futures gathers momentum an invited consultative group will identify and consider funding and governance mechanisms for longer term development of the national resource.
